About

Al-Shamal Sports Club is a Qatari multi-sports club based in Madinat ash Shamal, in the north of Qatar. It was founded in 1980 by Mohammed bin Badr Al-Sadah, who served as its first president. Its football team plays in the Qatar Stars League, the top tier of Qatari football.

The club started with very few resources and played its early matches on dirt pitches, which led it to put youth development first. Its first championship was the Qatari second division in 1985-86, which brought promotion to the top tier for the first time. It won the Sheikh Jassim Cup in 1996, its most notable trophy, and has won the second division four times in all: 1985-86, 2002-03, 2014-15 and 2020-21. After finishing runners-up in the 2025-26 Qatar Stars League, the club qualified for the 2026-27 AFC Champions League Elite.

The Al-Shamal SC Stadium opened in 2011. It is modelled on the historic Al Zubara Fort, built with red bricks imported from India, and now seats 5,000.

This is a short profile because the public record on the club is short. Al-Shamal appears on Walkouts through the career of Frank de Boer, whose player record lists the club.
