NFC Verification (Tag)

NFC Authentication for Football Shirts

Some shirts carry an NFC chip, embedded by the club or an authenticator during or just after a game. Holding a phone to the tag opens that shirt's record, and a chip bound to one shirt is much harder to copy than a paper certificate.

What is NFC authentication?

NFC (near-field communication) authentication binds a record to a physical chip in or on the shirt. When you hold a phone to the tag, it opens that shirt's own record, typically naming the player, the item and, for match shirts, the event.

How it works

  1. A chip is attached: by the club or the authenticator, during or just after the game or signing.
  2. It is linked to a record: the authenticator stores the details against that chip.
  3. You tap to check: a phone opens the record, without an app in most cases.

What to check

  • The tag opens a record: and the record matches the shirt in front of you.
  • The issuer: the tag points to the authenticator's own site, not a copy.
  • The tag is intact: an undamaged chip, not loose or re-attached.

Keeping it with the shirt

Do not remove or cover the tag, and keep any accompanying card or certificate with the shirt.
