Sealed Football Shirts: What an Unopened Package Tells You

The shirt has stayed in its original sealed package since it was packed. The seal shows nothing has happened to the shirt since then; it does not by itself prove a signature.

What does sealed mean?

A sealed shirt is still in its original, unopened packaging. The seal shows the shirt has not been opened, worn or altered since it was packed. It does not by itself prove a signature: where the shirt is signed, the signature is proven by its certificate or signing proof, as with any other shirt.

Why collectors choose sealed shirts

  • Untouched condition: the packaging protects the shirt from light, dust and handling.
  • A clear history: an unbroken seal rules out anything happening to the shirt after packing.

What to check

  • The source: buy from a seller who can say where the package came from.
  • The packaging: look for damage, resealing or signs of tampering.
  • The paperwork: for a signed item, the certificate or proof that covers the signature.

Keeping it with the shirt

Leave the package closed if you want to keep the seal intact, store it flat and away from light, and keep any certificate or signing proof with it.
